What do sharks and rays have in common? What makes them so unique and fascinating? Sharks and rays have existed for almost 400 million years and have adapted to live in most marine ecosystems. In Australia, there are over 300 species of sharks and rays, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Different species have special features to be able to survive in their habitats, which can range from tropical reefs to rivers, estuaries and open oceans. Some can travel thousands of kilometers, while others are homebodies, staying in small, localised areas. Despite being some of the most ancient animals on the Planet, many shark and ray species are under threat of extinction from human activities. In this program, participants learn about the biology, ecology and conservation of sharks and rays through interactive and fun rotating activities. These activities include an ecofriendly art-and-craft activity and take home gift.
